5 Days Out

I am still having insomnia issues. And jitteri-ness. And a little bit of irritableness. My girls know that I quit smoking, but I don't know if they've really realized it. They haven't said much about it.

My "sister" across the street is being supportive. That helps. She quit smoking a cigarette the other day when I came across the street to see her. A far cry from the days of she and I sitting together on the respective porches smoking and chatting. I miss chatting with her, though. Think I can handle sitting on the porch talking with her and drinking coffee while she smokes and I don't?

I am past the three days but still seem to have problems with feeling "at odds". Hard to explain. I am ready to have a restful night of sleep again, I can tell you that right now. My mom got me some Tylenol PM when I was wracked with the flu a couple of weeks ago. I might have to give it a shot tonight. I need some sleep.

At least today I wasn't sitting comatose on my couch being a complete bum. I got quite a bit done today, as a matter of fact. And it's weird to not have my life revolving on when the next cigarette break is going to be.

For the record; I did tell my friend on the ski trip what I was doing and she was very supportive of me and my goal. I'm very grateful to have her back in my life again after so many years!!

On a completely different subject; I got my first test grade back for one of my classes....98% thankyouverymuch!! I feel pretty good about that!

My six year old is going to be in the talent show this weekend at school. She will be displaying some art work. I am warming up the video cam!

Thanks for your continued prayers.

You're doing so great! Hang in there. The insomnia will calm down soon, probably a couple more days. A lot of that is your body going through de-tox and trying to push all that nicotine out. Drink lots of water; it helps.

Before you resort to the Tylenol PM, try taking a nice warm shower just before bed. It may relax you just enough to let you drift off.

Also, it is not a good idea to sit on the neighbor's porch and chat, especially if that's one of the places where you used to really enjoy smoking.

Why not invite her to go for a walk around the block? It will let the two of you chat without putting you in a position to possibly relapse.

Congrats on your test scores!! I'm still praying for you out here!!! :)

Sounds like Melissa knows what she's talking about. I have heard the water suggestion several times. That is something we're supposed to do whether or not we're de-toxing. It also helps your skin.

Keep it up, toots! Backsliding now would be so devastating!

YIPEE FOR YOU, Kristen!!! I wanted you to know I am praying this will be much easier for you today and here on out. Good for you for working so hard on something so important to you and your girls. Keep it up. You can do this!!!

On a side note, your mother dropped by my blog to say hello, and I wanted to respond but have no way of contacting her. Would you mind letting her know that I tried, and that I appreciate her stopping by? Thank you! And God bless you today in all you do with added strength and clear thinking. :0)

Are you kidding me??!! This is AWESOME!! I am so psyched for you, Kristen! You're really doing it!

As someone who has struggled with insomnia, you're right, you DO need to sleep! All of your resources are weaker when you're not sleeping. Do whatever you need to do in order to get some good sleep right now. Tylenol PM is a good idea. The insomnia will pass, so for now just do what you can to make sure you are not completely overtired and overtaxing your system.

Do you see what I mean about how quitting smoking is freeing? Not thinking about your next smoke break leaves room and energy to be thinking about so much else! And that good feeling is only going to get better!

I agree that you shouldn't sit with a smoker and chat right now. And soon you won't want to be around that smell. Going for a walk together is a great idea! Just start a new habit with her so that you don't think about smoking when you're stopping by for a chat.

Congratulations on your exam score! You're kind of like a super hero or something! :-)

I'm really happy for you, Kristen! Whatever you do now, just don't pick up a cigarette. Don't make the mistake of thinking that "just one" won't make a difference. It will!

You ROCK!!! :-)

Melissa has some great ideas, especially going for a walk with your "sister" instead of sitting on her porch while she smokes. Actually, she probably knows better than to light up a cigarette in front of you right now.

Rob and I hit the 30 day mark this Friday evening and I still haven't been around a single person who smokes, so I have no idea how I'll react when that happens. There's no way I'll smoke a cigarette - I just don't know how it's going to feel to be around someone who's smoking one anywhere near me.

The insomnia was a real issue with me. I felt so emotionally exhausted yet was so jittery at night I couldn't sleep, so I took Tylenol PM and it helped.

You're still at the rough part, but you're past the worst, the first 3 days. I still find myself snapping occasionally, but not nearly as often as I did the first week or so. It's just a rough thing to get through, but...

...it's sooo worth it and it gets better (and easier) every single day that you go without a cigarette.

You won't believe how good it feels to approach your one month mark!

5 days! Wow, Kristen you're doing great :-) I think going for a walk with your sister is a great idea, much better than trying to sit and chat while she's smoking! It's a shame your sister doesn't want to try to quit at the same time as you, you would be great encouragement for each other. Have you ever knit or crocheted? that would be something to do with your hands;)

Wow! You are doing so great. What a great thing you are accomplishing - one day at a time. Sometimes one hour at at time I'm sure. I'm really happy for you and I can't wait until I hear you say you are sleeping well, relaxed, and feeling good.
Way to go!
